We all know that a grow light mover will move along the plant canopy. We can picture that grow light system feature and the grow equipment logic is definitely there. So, we get it. It’s absolutely a better indoor grow light to more of the canopy. And, we can see that we are able to get closer to that canopy with our indoor grow light when it’s moving on a grow light mover. This grow light Ppfd chart comparison shows how that looks. That’s because now, using our LightRail light mover, there are no hot spots or zoned light overkill. So, the plants are able to get better, stronger PAR and more even Ppfd. That’s because more of the indoor grow light is now close and useful. So, we do understand this. But what about light penetration with light movers beyond that canopy? So, what specifically is going on there? Shouldn’t light penetration with light movers be as important?
We went with camera in hand to look at this indoor grow system effect. We wanted to see exactly what kind of light penetration with light movers we would find. What we found was the entire surfaces of each plant are lit up with grow lamp interaction. In this grow light system and from this point, the indoor grow light then moves on the LightRail light mover. And then, the indoor grow system all slightly changes with new leaves that light up with grow lamp contact. It’s like a continuous shifting scene. But miraculously, there are never any hot spots up top or shadows below. No matter the grow light used, the same effect manifests. It translates to all grow lights. Here is a 30 second video that tells the story:
One meter (3’) beneath a dense, overgrown canopy

This photo is taken three feet under the plant canopy. We can see all the plant surfaces interacting with the grow lamp. And, we can see light penetration with light movers is remarkably efficient with more of the leaves working for the plants.
Now, take a look at the photo to the right. We took this indoor grow system photo about one meter (3’) below the canopy. And by the way, this was one dense, overgrown canopy with plants that were just having their way. It should have been a dark, shadowy place with no indoor plant light to be found. Instead, it was all lit up with grow lamp interaction. In other words, every leaf on every plant had the indoor grow light shining on it clearly. And, this grow light system interaction went all the way to the bottom. This visual describes grow light Leaf Area Index perfectly. So, in this indoor grow system with a grow light mover, light penetration with light movers makes that possible. The grow lamp has no other way to get down to that depth, especially with that kind of a dense and close canopy.
Light penetration with light movers makes the difference
Typical grow equipment results from a stationary grow light system tell a different story. When the indoor grow system is not moving, then the leaf light time stays the same. It stays exactly the same, and that’s every minute of every day. There is no beautiful, continuous shifting scene like what the photo hints at and what the videos show. For a stationary indoor grow system, it’s nothing but hot spots above and shadow patterns below. And, those stationary indoor grow lights would no doubt be positioned multiple feet above the canopy. That’s out of necessity to protect the plants from the never-ending and never changing zoned light overkill of the stationary grow lamps. So for our grow equipment, there is nothing natural or healthy about this.
More of the leaves are lit up and working for the plant
Grow light movers let us do so much better. We want our indoor grow system to have light penetration with light movers. When the indoor plant light is moved on a LightRail light mover, more of the leaves are lit up and working for the plant. And really, it’s just that simple. We get much better results when all the leaves are getting a better quality of light and at just the correct amount of time. Light equals yield. So, when the leaves are now all working for the health of the plant, it’s similar to this analogy: A factory plant has workers. If all the workers are productive, you produce at 100%. But, if only half the workers are productive, your production is also cut in half, so you now produce at 50%. Grow light movers give that grow light penetration to get all the leaves working at 100% efficiency. And on this subject, LightRail light movers are ranked as the single best grow light efficiency product on the market.
When that better quality of indoor grow light interacts, the result is grow equipment magic
With a LightRail light mover, we get a better quality of indoor grow light that is a closer and stronger light (Inverse Square Law). And, we get that better quality of indoor grow light at just the correct amount of time for each leaf surface. Again, that’s Leaf Area Index and grow light movers are all about that. So, when that better quality of light interacts, the result is grow equipment magic. Then, growth rate is much faster, nodes are much more abundant and our yield increases. It’s the same whether we have a LightRail 3.5 Kit, a LightRail 4.0 Kit or a LightRail 4.20 Kit. The movement of the grow light system makes all the difference.
Our plants win
So, we want all of our leaves getting indoor plant light. And, we want all of our leaves working for the good of the plant. Indoor grow lights that move on LightRail light movers will get that indoor plant light to those leaves efficiently. Light penetration with light movers is remarkable and it is the other side of the yield story. It’s the hidden part, far under the canopy where most indoor grow lights never reach. But, when those indoor grow lights are moving on LightRail light movers, that makes all the difference. When the indoor plant light can light up all the plant with a more powerful and effective grow light system moving on a grow light mover, our plants win. And that’s when we win, too. The photos tell the story, and it’s all about light penetration with light movers.
Whether in a greenhouse or grow room, and whether for indoor farming or cannabis cultivation, LightRail light movers are the perfect solution.
