Here at the LightRail Lab of grow light systems, we’ve done a number of side by side experiments. On the one side, a LightRail light mover, and on the other side, a stationary light. Notice the shadows on the stationary side to the left. With this stationary indoor grow light, there’s a lot of plant area there that never sees the indoor plant light. On the LightRail side on the right, the indoor grow light fills in the shadows and involves more of the plant, with more of the leaves working for the plant. You’ll see how this change in indoor grow equipment equates to yield increases in the following sections.

Here are two indoor grow setup areas, side by side, and roughly 6′ deep by 4′ wide each. Both sides share the same nutrient source, both have identical 1000 watt indoor grow lights and both sides are treated  exactly the same. The only difference is that the left hand side has the indoor grow light as a stationary light and the right hand side has the indoor plant light moved on a LightRail light mover. There is an opaque divider, floor to ceiling, that separates the two grow setups. Results: 22 lbs on the stationary grow light side vs 39 lbs on the LightRail light mover side. That equals a 78% increase on the LightRail light mover side. (These were our results in a controlled setting – your results may vary.)

The Pepper Project

Again, for this indoor grow setup, there are two side by side grow setup areas with everything the same as far as the grow equipment – shared nutrient source, same wattage and light and identical treatment. The only difference, a LightRail light mover is on the right and a stationary indoor grow light is on the left. See the shadows on the stationary grow light side in the amber insert box of the results flyer? Those shadows are always there and never change. That’s an inefficient  waste. As much as 50% of a stationary grow light is  wasted, and this photo is a good visual for that.  In this indoor grow setup, do you see how the LightRail light mover side is illuminating more of the leaves? That’s efficiency, and yield is increased in a big way when more of the leaves are involved with the light. Light=Yield.

Two 600 Watts Vs One 1000

This side by side grow light setup was a little different in that we had two 600 watt lights on the stationary grow light side vs one 1000 watt on the LightRail light mover side. So, 200 fewer watts in total on the LightRail light mover side. Aside from this, both sides had identical treatment, as did the previous indoor grow equipment side by sides. Again, see the shadows on the left hand, stationary grow light side? Even with two indoor plant lights end to end, those shadows will always be there. Multiple stationary indoor grow lights cannot duplicate what LightRail light movers can do. Light=Yield.

Stationary Side Is Harvested

The stationary indoor plant lights side of this indoor grow setup was tall and spindly before the harvest and the count results were weak. You are seeing the total amount of tomatoes from six pots – the complete indoor grow harvest.

The Results

Take a look at the two stacks of tomatoes, stationary grow light results on the left, LightRail light mover results on the right. Remember, this was two 600 watt stationary plant lights on the left and one 1000 watt plant light on a LightRail light mover side on the right, so 200 fewer watts on the LightRail light mover side.

It was 32 lbs of tomatoes on the LightRail light mover side versus 16 lbs of tomatoes on the stationary grow light side. The results were basically double the yield. (Again, our results in a controlled setting and your results may vary.)

Nodes, Buds and Fruit

The total health of the LightRail light mover side is also something to mention – more nodes with thicker, fuller plants. The amount of fruit actually weighs even staked plants down. Conversely, the plants on the stationary indoor plant light sides of each study often have plants that are reaching for the grow light and overall, thinner in stature.

Light = Yield

Just as remarkable as the total yield counts for each of these three side by side grow equipment experiments; the noticeable shadow details on the stationary grow light sides vs the LightRail light mover side – that tells the “why” of the story. When light gets in there to all those mid and lower level leaves, yield will increase significantly.
